Snug against the river in the city are the South Bank Parklands. These are an obvious choice to visit with the family with the abundance of splash features at the huge public man made beach. The relaxed atmosphere of the park lands loaded with restaurants, BBQ areas and playgrounds is a welcome escape from the busy city district nearby.
An easy 10 minute walk along the river from Southbank and you will find yourself at the Queensland Museum and Sciencentre. As the museum is free combined together with the Scencentre (10-$15pp) this makes for an economical way to spend an activity filled day.
Te best zoo in town is Lone Pine, and hosts the largest koala collective (130) around, as well as almost any other Aussie animal you can name. You get up close and can interact with a huge variety of critters from around the country and farm animals. The animal talks are some of the most professional I have heard. Catch a river ferry from the city for an extra special day.
And don't forget to visit Mount Cootha for an ice cream and the other amazing public botanical gardens around the city.
